How we connect you with an independent Montreal glass pro

We connect you; we don't do the work

Windows Montreal is a mise en relation service. Requests go to independent businesses: vitreries, window and door installers, and screen and shower-glass specialists, depending on the job. They aren't our employees or subcontractors, so the soumission, the contract and the warranty are between you and them.

What we handle:

• reading your request and working out what kind of job it is
• passing it to an independent pro who does that work and serves your address
• following up so it doesn't go quiet

What the pro handles: the price, the dates, the warranty and who does the installation.

What happens after you send your request

We pass on what you give us: your name, contact details, address, the description and any photos. For a thermos or a single pane, photos can be enough for a first price. For a whole window or door, expect a visit to confirm the sizes before anything is ordered.

The pro contacts you to talk through sizes, access and timing. We then check that it happened. If nobody has been in touch, let us know and we'll send your request to someone else.

You can write to us in French or English. If you need to be served in English, say so and we'll look for a pro who works in English, or tell you plainly if we can't find one.

RBQ licence, a French contract and the cancellation period

Window, door and storefront contractors in Quebec need a licence from the Régie du bâtiment (RBQ), subclass 8.0, and must show the licence number on their advertising. Ask for it, and check it with the RBQ before you sign. The RBQ's contractor licence FAQ explains what the licence means.

If you sign a window or door contract at home, Quebec treats it as itinerant commerce, even if you made the first call. The contract must be on paper and in French, and you have 10 days to cancel after receiving your copy. No work may be done in that period except urgent door, window or roof repairs. The Office de la protection du consommateur sets out the rules.

Questions worth asking whoever quotes:

• Will your own people do the installation, or a subcontractor?
• Are the sizes confirmed on site before the glass or window is ordered?
• Is the soumission written, with taxes, removal and finishing included?

Your personal information

We share your details with the pro so your job can be quoted, and for nothing else. Quebec's Law 25 requires us to name a person responsible for protecting personal information; our privacy policy says who that is, what we keep and how to ask for it to be removed.
